The alpaca and merino blend actually feels softer than my old acrylic beanies, no itch at all. I wore it all weekend skiing and my ears stayed warm even when the wind picked up.

Wore this for three hours in 15-degree windchill and my ears never went numb, which is more than I can say for my old acrylic beanie. The merino keeps it from getting itchy, though it's a bit tight over my headphones.
